Welcome Message from APAO President

  Issue 2 – June 2026

Dear Colleagues and Friends from Around the World,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 42nd Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) Congress in Singapore from March 18-21, 2027.

Every year, we gather thousands of colleagues from across the Asia-Pacific and worldwide to exchange knowledge and experience. Wherever this meeting is held, our mission remains steadfast: to promote the science and art of ophthalmology among all people and nations of our region, to prevent blindness and restore sight through teaching, research, and service. This congress represents a powerful convergence of minds and hearts united in achieving this noble mission.

As a federation of ophthalmic organizations, the APAO comprises 27 national and territorial societies plus 12 subspecialty societies, representing approximately 120,000 eye doctors—a remarkable 59% of the global ophthalmology community. This collective strength positions us uniquely to address the most pressing challenges in eye care.

This annual congress offers you an unparalleled opportunity to meet your international peers, share cutting-edge knowledge, and build lasting friendships that transcend geographical boundaries. Through scientific presentations, workshops, and networking sessions, we create pathways for collaboration that extend far beyond these four days.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in the organization of this event, including our local hosts, the Singapore Society of Ophthalmology and the College of Ophthalmologists, Academy of Medicine, Singapore. Without their careful planning and devoted commitment, this meaningful exchange would not be possible.

Finally, it is your active participation that matters. I encourage all delegates to engage in discussions, ask questions, share experience, and forge new partnerships.

Welcome to Singapore, and thank you for your dedication to ophthalmology!

With best regards,

Tetsuro OSHIKA
President
Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology
