Welcome Message from
APAO 2027 Scientific Program Committee Chair

  Issue 4 – August 2026

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

On behalf of the Scientific Program Committee (SPC) of the 42nd Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) Congress, I extend a warm welcome to each of you attending APAO 2027 — one of the world’s premier ophthalmic gatherings.

Throughout our four-day program spanning March 18-21, 2027, you will explore cutting-edge developments and breakthrough innovations in eye care through our carefully curated scientific sessions. Whether your interests lie in fundamental research or advancing your clinical expertise, and irrespective of your subspecialty focus or career stage, I am confident you will gain a wealth of insights from our diverse array of presentations, symposiums, hands-on workshops, and practical wet lab sessions.

Personally, this marks my eighth time serving as SPC Chair for the APAO Congress since 2015. While I remain both honored and grateful for this opportunity, I continue to be struck by the exceptional caliber of contributions from our esteemed invited faculty and the authors of submitted abstracts. Each year, our dedicated colleagues persist in their efforts to fill scientific knowledge gaps, refine current therapeutic approaches, pioneer novel treatments, and leverage emerging technologies to better serve our patients’ evolving needs. I look forward to discovering another collection of compelling research findings that you will share at our 2027 meeting.

We truly hope you will maximize this exceptional platform to make enduring contributions to the field of eye care. Thank you for being part of this remarkable event, and let us embrace this rewarding journey together in Singapore!

Best regards,

Dennis LAM
Chair
APAO 2027 Scientific Program Committee

The Scientific Program Committee, chaired by Prof. Dennis LAM, brings together 143 leading experts in our field. They are devoted to designing a world-class ophthalmology program covering 19 subspecialties alongside immersive wet lab courses.

Echoing the congress theme, The Future of Ophthalmology, dedicated sessions will be presented to envision the future of each of the 19 subspecialties, exploring emerging technologies, evolving clinical practices, scientific advances, and anticipated paradigm shifts in diagnosis and treatment.

The deadline for submitting abstracts to APAO 2027 has now been extended to September 16, 2026 (23:59 Singapore time, GMT+8). While this gives you a little more time to fine-tune your work, we still encourage you to submit early to avoid last-minute system congestion.

If you have already submitted an abstract but have not yet completed the Declaration of Generative AI Use, please log in to the Scientific Portal to do so by the above date.

As introduced in the May issue of this newsletter, the APAO Prof. Yasuo Tano Travel Grants and the APAO Young Ophthalmologists (YO) Travel Grants are calling for applications until September 30, 2026. Don’t miss the chance! For more information, including the eligibility criteria, benefits, and application procedure, please refer to the travel grant webpage.

Additionally, our local partner, the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC), is generously offering the SNEC Travel Grants to support delegates from the Asia-Pacific region to participate in the APAO 2027 Congress. Applicants for the APAO Prof. Yasuo Tano Travel Grants will be automatically considered for these new opportunities. No separate application is required.

Beyond our thought-provoking scientific sessions, the APAO Congress organizes various events to celebrate colleagues’ achievements and foster international connections. Take a look at our social program schedule and plan your networking agenda!
